The Condominium Authority of Ontario is now in Service!
Starting November 1, 2017, the CAO will offer mandatory training for condo directors as prescribed by the section 29(2) of the Condominium Act, 1998, as amended.
Here’s what you need to know about section 29(2), as amended:
- Current directors (either appointed or elected) will have up to one year, from November 1, 2017, to complete the mandatory training course;
- Newly elected or appointed directors, after November 1, 2017, will have up to six months to complete the mandatory training course;
- A director appointed by a developer or elected by the owners to the first board (the pre-turnover board), would be exempt from the training requirement, unless re-elected or appointed to the board afterwards; and
- The mandatory training course, once completed, is valid for up to seven years after the date of completion.
For the next two months, the CAO is offering four free pilot modules in order to obtain feedback from condo owners, residents and members from the public. You could find these modules on the CAO’s website. We note, these pilot modules will NOT count towards the mandatory training requirement prescribed by section 29(2), however, they may provide a good indication of what the mandatory training course will look like.
Stay tuned to CAO’s website for further details!
